Holy basil extract is an herb that comes from the Ocimum genus. Holy Basil has been used for religious ceremonies in India for over three thousand years. A Holy basil study found various health effects including the reduction of stress, anxiety, and depression.
The Ocimum genus is a herbaceous perennial plant that belongs to the Lamiaceae family. It has heart-shaped leaves, white flowers, and square stems.
Known in India as Tulsi, the holy basil plant from the Ocimum is considered to be a symbol of health, love, and devotion. The leaves of the plant are said to be sacred and also have medicinal values. Holy basil has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine and is known to stimulate the production of white blood cells, which fight infection.
Tulsi (Ocimum) was first introduced into Indian culture by Hindu monks around 2000 BC as confirmed by study. The leaves were originally dried and taken in powdered form, but today they are often brewed like a tea or used fresh in cooking and herbal remedies and teas. Tulsi is also called the “Queen of Herbs” because it is believed to relieve everything from headaches, stress, fatigue to menstrual problems.
One of the most common preparation/ preparation techniques for this plant is mixing with milk and honey.
