Astragalus membranaceus is a genus of about 150 species of herbs and shrubs belonging to the botanical family Fabaceae, and the only genus in the plant family Astragalaceae. The members are mostly native to eastern Asia, with a few species extending into Europe according to studies.
Studies show that Astragalus is natively grown in Asia, but can also be found in other parts of the world. The Astragalus root genus is also an important component in traditional Chinese and Tibetan medicines because if it’s ability to be a great holistic partner.
The word “astragalus” derives from the Greek word “astragal,” which means “foot joint of the human body.” The etymology of this word reflects the medicinal qualities of Astragalus membranaceus and its effects on studies; anciently it was thought that this plant had the ability to cure foot ailments.
Astragalus has pink flowers, petals, wings, and keels. It is usually between 30cm and 60cm tall. Astragalus has been used as a substitute for ginseng in traditional Chinese medicine because it displays similar medicinal qualities.
